For people with PI who experience purpura (purple or red patches caused by bleeding from small blood vessels), it's important to understand that digestive system issues can be a separate but related complication of PI itself, rather than being caused by purpura.

Many people with PI experience digestive tract issues that require specialized care. If you're having digestive symptoms, it would be valuable to discuss this with your healthcare team. A gastroenterologist can help diagnose and treat any digestive system complications. These specialists are specifically trained to manage infections or autoimmune inflammation in the digestive system, as well as other digestive conditions related to PI.

Yes, I did. For years, I was told I just had recurrent sinus infections and seasonal allergies. I went through multiple rounds of antibiotics every year, but the infections kept coming back. At one point, a doctor thought it might be asthma because of the constant coughing and breathing issues. It wasn’t until I saw an immunologist and had specific immune function tests that we realized it was primary immunodeficiency. Looking back, the repeated infections and slow recovery times were big clues. I just wish I had known what to look for sooner!
